SIGHTSEEINGS
There are many historical monuments in the city, which date back to the Hellenistic and Roman times, the Ottoman era, up to the wars of the Modern Greek history. The most important are:
  • The White Tower, the landmark of the city, near the sea and the central beach. It has been the fort at the end of a long wall that protected Thessaloniki. It has also been used as a prison. Today, it is maintained in excellent condition and operates as a museum.
  • Roman monuments, such as the ancient Roman forum, the Galerius arch (Kamara) the Rotunda and many more.
  • The Byzantine temples of the city’s protector, Saint Demetrius, with the relics of the Saint and pre-Christian catacombs, the Agia Sofia Church built in the 8th century AD, a copy of the Agia Sofia Church in Istanbul, the Achiropoiitos Church etc.
  • The Acropolis, the walls and the Venetian Eptapirgio (the castles), as well as the notorious prison of Genti Koule.
  • The Vlatadon Monastery, the Osios David Monastery, and many more holy monasteries.
  • The picturesque Old City with the narrow uphill alleys, the cobblestone pavements and the steps that lead to flowery gardens and houses of old Macedonian architecture, with attics and wooden balconies, small Byzantine churches hidden in the ivies, and countless cultural and gastronomy centers.
  • The Podium of Apostle Paul, where the Apostle to the Nations addressed his teachings and messages to the residents of Thessaloniki.
  • The Thessaloniki International Fair and the large "Ioannis Vellidis" Congress Center.
  • The house where Kemal Ataturk was born, now the Turkish Consulate.
  • The Archaeological Museum.
  • The Byzantine Museum.
  • The Folk and Ethnological Museum.
  • The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle.
  • The Cinema Museum, the Photography Museum, the Technology Museum, the Sports Museum, the War Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Waterworks Museum and many more museums.
  • The beach extending from the city’s port to the borders of the Municipality of Kalamaria, with many coffee shops along the beach, ships that sail in the Thermaic gulf, where you can have a drink while listening to music, the imposing statue of Great Alexander, sports and modern theme parks for children and adults.
  • The Aristotle Square.
  • The port.
  • The university.
  • The zoo and the Seich Sou forest.
  • The Palais des Sports and the pitches of the city’s sport teams.
  • Karampournaki, with the summer palace of the King (Palataki), the marina with the yachts, and the crazy nightlife.
  • The Vasilissis Olgas Street, with the impressive neoclassical buildings (Jewish, Italian, Austrian and Turkish) of the two last centuries.
